To ensure a smooth, speedy and seamless DOT physical, we've listed some pre-exam tips below. Please review before your arrival!
-
Do not use nicotine or caffeine for 2 hours before exam. Check out: BP guidelines.
-
Come hydrated and ready to provide a urine sample. This is not a drug test, but marijuana is a disqualifying substance even though many states, including Missouri, consider it legal for medical purposes.
-
If you take medications:
-
Bring your medications or medication list, dosage and reason for taking it as well as your prescribing MD's info.
-
Check and see if you need a medical clearance letter! Get your medical compliance letter early. Not having your compliance letter can delay you getting your DOT medical card. Click here to find out more about health conditions that may need a compliance letter.
-
-
If you use a CPAP for SLEEP APNEA, we need a 90-day compliance report. Contact the company who gave you the CPAP machine to provide your compliance log, or be ready to show your app on your cell phone. Check out our sleep apnea FAQ for more info.
-
If you have a cardiologist or neurologist you probably need a clearance letter! Please contact us so we can get one sent to your provider ahead of the DOT physical. Find out what you need to know about those issues here.
Each DOT physical examination is unique and decisions are based upon the professional opinion of the doctor as well as FMCSA guidelines. The information above are guidelines only, and not meant to be all inclusive or as a guarantee of passing the exam. Additional testing or/information may be required by your DOT examiner.
